If you want to learn Java, why? Is it for getting a Job? If so you should learn Javscript instead. So not too long ago an 8 year old kid made a minecraft mod in Java that would control docker containers (create/launch/etc) - makes me think that you might benefit from that route Most of the other languages are either obsolete, fragmented to the point of an unstable dev/user base, or overly complex for the simplest of things (looking at you C++).

If you want a language that is just fine for desktop development, tackle Python. If you want a language suited well for the web dev environment, tackle JavaScript. Oracle is taking it the "pay to use" route. In about 25 more lessons I will be getting into React.js + Redux and HTTP/JSON/AJAX + Asynchronous JavaScript afterwards.įorget the Java language. If anyone is looking for a course to get to know JavaScript I'm currently taking the ZtM Web Dev course on Udemy. I have been tinkering with languages since the late 1990's,and while I have never been good at any of them (just never stick with anything, I have other interests), but I have a pretty good grasp on programming in general because of exposure to various languages. Once you broaden your horizons you'll find it easier to adapt the lessons learned to your language of choice.

You're probably going to hate me for saying this, but the best way to learn how to program in a specific language is to learn how other languages work.
